Syr wins SM Match by Upfront at The National

Sebastian Eidsæther Syr won the SM Match by Upfront at The National Golfresort, beating Oliver Lilliedahl 3 & 1 in the final on July 10. Syr controlled the final match and closed it out on the 17th hole with a three-hole lead. The three-day tournament had 64 players competing in a match play knockout format.

Syr was strong throughout the week. He opened with a 3 & 2 win over Max Risvåg, then beat Fabian Wennerlöf 6 & 5 in the second round — his biggest win of the week. In the third round he beat Jesper Hagborg Asp 2 & 1, and in the quarter-final he defeated Christian Jacobsen 4 & 2. The semi-final against Sebastian Petersen was his closest match. Syr won it 1 up after all 18 holes were played.

Lilliedahl had a good run through the bracket but could not match Syr in the final. The two losing semi-finalists were Petersen and Thom Hoetmer, who were both knocked out in the last four.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly named Oliver Lilliedahl as the winner of the final. This was caused by a data error on our side. Sebastian Eidsæther Syr won the final 3 & 1. We are sorry for the mistake.
